My approach to counselling

The person-centred approach

At Balanced Thoughts, my approach is centered around you. I use a non-directive, person-centred form of therapy, which means our sessions are led by your needs and your pace.

My goal is to build a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship based on three core conditions:

  • Unconditional Positive Regard: I accept you for who you are, without judgment.
  • Empathy: I strive to genuinely understand your perspective and feelings.
  • Congruence: I am authentic and transparent in our sessions.

Together, we’ll create a safe space where you can feel seen and understood, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings without pressure. This is where real change begins.

My neurodivergent and creative approach is designed to help your child thrive

My approach combines genuine neurodivergent understanding with creative, child-centered therapies. This helps children feel safe, seen and empowered to build coping skills and grow with confidence.

Empowering your child’s growth

Person-centred therapy, also known as client-centred therapy, is a powerful approach that empowers your child to take charge of their own life. It helps them build the skills to solve problems and navigate challenges independently.

As a neurodivergent counsellor, I bring a unique perspective and genuine understanding to this work. My background includes a Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development, a Level 4 LDSS qualification, and a Level 3 in Counselling, which I am building on with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (2025). This professional training is complemented by my firsthand experience with challenges like masking, burnout, and sensory overwhelm, which allows me to connect with your child on a deeper level.

The path to self-actualisation

A core purpose of person-centred therapy is self-actualisation—encouraging your child to reach their full potential.

This approach is non-directive, meaning I don’t ask leading questions. I view your child as the expert on themselves. My role is to listen actively and provide a safe, comfortable space where they feel heard.

This method has been highly effective in helping children and young people with a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, stress, grief and low self-esteem.

A Dedicated Therapeutic Space

Finding the right support for children and young people can often feel overwhelming for parents. We believe every child deserves a dedicated, specialised place where they can process their emotions and navigate life’s challenges This is why I created Balanced Thoughts.

The moment a child steps into Balanced Thoughts, they find an environment instantly conducive to being calm. We have comfortable seating for both the child and parents.

We recognise that asking a child to simply talk about their feelings rarely works. Here, children are encouraged to communicate in a non-judgemental space.

A fundamental pillar of Balanced Thoughts is ensuring that every child feels profoundly safe. For neurodivergent children who may struggle with masking, this space is vital. They are shown they can truly be authentic.
